Statement
This recent series of paintings feel organic in resonance and evolve spontaneously they have a sense of colour and form penetrating and moving through boundaries, those of the canvas and of spaces linked to the very act of them being worked with. Layers form by rigorously working areas of canvas and leaving some areas to settle in their immediacy.
Echoes of colour, discordance and density combine to make a rich dancing surface. The depth in the paintings is heightened by an almost microscopic universe that is inhabited by the viewer, Although not on vast scale they seem to allow the viewer a sense of navigation that is rather like a magnified dreamscape.
There is also quite an archaeological feel to the paintings, a sense of perhaps layer upon layer of accumulated artefacts and objects over time and the really strong sense of colour conveys a richness and depth that reoccurs throughout these works.
